UP AND COMING ARTIST! Myke Bogan!

South Dakota is the last place you would think some of the dopest Hip-Hop would come from. Well think again. Myke Bogan is creating a large following under the banner of SOUNDLAPSE with a steady release of mixtapes and videos.

The video above is off his mixtape "So Long South Dakota" which will be included in links at the bottom. He just released his new mixtape "Monkeys On The Beach" and it is astounding. I truly think Myke Bogan will be someone to watch for in the future and to start following now!

Mad Dukez & Fresh Kils The "Open Affairs" EP Review

I recently had the honor of sharing the stage with an MC who goes by Mad Dukez (Buffalo, NY) and a MPC artist/producer Fresh Kils (Toronto, Canada). I discovered them when opening up for Blueprint and they were touring with him on the Deleted Scenes tour back in November 2012. An amazing show and I was blown away. I then opened up for them again in March 2013 when they were touring in support of their new "Open Affairs" EP.

Before the "Open Affairs" EP they released "Monsters" which was a few tracks to keep people like me sedated and not flipping out before I got to hear the album. It worked. And then I wanted more, listening to Monsters on repeat like a dope fiend licking a needle. And then they dropped "Open Affairs", the official EP before "Gettin' Gatsby" is released this summer!

It was a great listen and each day I'm listening to it more and more. Mad Dukez delivers astounding and passionate lyrics in each verse, chorus, even sung hooks, and energy you not only see on stage but in each recording ["Passed Preachin'"]. He presents a flow reminiscent of the golden era of Hip-Hop with a new school feel which is great for those underground millennium Hip-Hop heads such as myself.

Fresh Kils of course brings the mad MPC skils with each song tied to the rest of the EP but at the same time creating it's own unique experience. What I immediately noticed is Fresh Kils is not limited by pre-conceived notions that an MPC has to be boom bap, in fact while I personally would define it as boom bap some instrumentals define themselves beyond that ["At The Top"].

The only issue I can find is at times the chorus can seem a bit repetitive ["Round Rock"].  Honestly only one makes me say this and I have no room to talk considering some song I've written in my past...it happens. Beyond that one issue I find it very hard to discover anything else I don't like, of course this only an EP and I'll update when the album is released!

The EP overall is a definite listen, a "no duh" buy, and a "I'm going to share this!" post. I would recommend this to all Hip-Hop fans, new school, underground, mainstream, in between (whatever that is), and my grandma. Links below!
